SANTA ANA -- A freeway shooting that left one man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his arm may have been the result of road rage.
Police are searching for two suspects in a black Cadillac Escalade, one of whom fired the shot.
It happened on Interstate 5 in Santa Ana about 5:37 a.m., according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertanga.
The victim told police he was on his way to work and was driving eastbound on 17th Street when he noticed two men in the Escalade.
The two motorists started "racing," Beragna said.
Both motorists turned onto Penn Way to get to the southbound I-5 on ramp.
They apparently were racing to see who could get onto the freeway first, Bertanga said.
"The victim got there first," according to Bertanga.
The victim says that the driver pulled up to him and fired one round hitting him in the right arm.
He says he pulled over and the driver of the Escalade drove off. The two men never exchanged words during the incident, police say.
The victim suffered a broken arm as a result of the shooting. He is reported to be in stable condition at the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to call the Santa Ana Police Department at (714) 245-8400.
