SHERMAN OAKS -- A robbery suspect led police on a dangerous pursuit across several Southern California freeways Wednesday before finally coming to a stop in Sherman Oaks.
The chase began in Orange County after the suspect was seen shoplifting from several stores in Mission Viejo, according to Orange County Sheriff's spokesman, Jim Amormino.
"She was seen taking items from "Bath & Body Works" as well as possibly "Victoria's Secret" at the Shops at Mission Viejo," Amormino told KTLA.
Police officers followed the woman, driving a silver, 4-door sedan, onto the 405 freeway at Jamboree and tried to get her to pull over. She refused, and the chase began, Amormino said.
During the pursuit, which lasted over an hour, the suspect hit speeds of 90 to 100 miles per hour, weaved in and out of traffic and drove on the shoulder of the freeway, CHP officials say.
The suspect came to a sudden stop on the Ventura Freeway near the Van Nuys exit just before 2 :00 p.m. where she pulled over, but initially refused to get out of the vehicle.
Officers, with guns drawn, approached the car and tried to negotiate with the woman. She finally opened the door and officers pulled her out of the car, handcuffed her and took her into custody.
