RIVERSIDE COUNTY (KTLA) -- Sheriff's deputies arrested over two dozen people involved in an illegal cock-fighting ring in Jurupa Sunday.
Riverside County Sheriff's deputies served a warrant about 9:30 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 4000 block of Kenneth Street.
After a long investigation into operations at the residence, deputies found evidence of illegal cock-fighting and gambling and arrested 28 people, most of whom were spectators.
According to witnesses, deputies had to break down the front door with a battering ram to get inside the home.
Animal control seized and were forced to destroy nearly 3 dozen roosters with combat razors still attached to their feet.
More than $14,000 was found in connection with the ring.
The home owner, Martin Ruezga, 47, his son, Miguel Angel Ruezga, 25, and his brother, Filiberto Ruezga, 62, were arrested for animal cruelty and illegal gambling.
Martin Ruezga was also ordered to remove all structures on the half-acre property used in the illegal operation.
All three were booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
