BUENA PARK -- The Xcelerator ride at Knott's Berry Farm could be closed for several more weeks following an accident that injured two people at the theme park in September.

State inspectors are still trying to determine why a cable snapped on the ride injuring a 12 year old boy and another man. The incident was caught on tape.

It happened shortly before 4 p.m. on September 16 at the Buena Park amusement park.

Knott's spokesperson Jennifer Blazey says a cable came loose during the ride.

A video posted on YouTube shows particles flying into the face of passengers.

The incident caused lacerations to the 12 year old boy's legs, according to officials with Knott's Berry farm. He spent a few nights at the hospital. Another man was treated for back pain.

Knott's closed the ride immediately following the accident.

"It's still out of commission, and it's liable to be out of commission for a few months more," said Erika Monterroza, spokesman for Cal-OSHA, the state agency responsible for investigating theme park accidents.

Portions of the ride have been removed for inspection.

State officials say they will examine Knott's maintenance records, but added Knott's appeared to be up-to-date with required maintenance.

It was the first problem since the ride opened in 2002, officials said.
