LANCASTER, Calif. (KTLA) -- The L.A. County Sheriff's Department is investigating a deadly shooting in Lancaster involving a deputy who opened fire on a man who was charging toward him with a sword.

It happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 44000 block of Spearman Avenue.

Investigators say deputies were serving a narcotics search warrant at the home when a 68-year-old man suddenly exited a bedroom carrying a four-foot long sword.

The man then charged toward a deputy that was nearby, according to authorities.

The deputy opened fire, shooting the suspect several times.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.

No deputies were injured.

The suspect's sword was recovered at the scene.

There were three other people in the residence who were detained without incident.
