SEAL BEACH (KTLA) -- A Long Beach Fire Department captain is facing felony charges of driving under the influence and hit and run.

Police received a call just after 1:30 a.m. on April 1 reporting a hit-and-run accident involving a bicyclist.

The accident happened on Westminster Avenue near Bolsa Chica Street, according to Seal Beach police.

Witnesses said a Chevrolet truck swerved into the bike lane and hit a bicyclist while driving about 60 mph.

The cyclist suffered major head trauma, police said.

Some of the witnesses followed the driver to a house in Huntington Beach.

John Hines, 38, was arrested and booked at the Seal Beach Police Department.

An investigation into the accident is now underway.

The Long Beach Fire Department has not commented on the incident, saying it does not discuss personnel issues.
