LONG BEACH - A jury has convicted a 23-year-old man of murdering
his girlfriend's 13-month-old son, whose body was dumped in a trash bin in
downtown Long Beach.
Jurors found Anthony Jerome Hall Jr. guilty of one count each of second-degree murder and assault on a child causing death in the September 2008 slaying of Nathan Coleman.
The toddler's body was discovered on Sept. 19, 2008, in a rolling trash bin in an alley near Third Street and Lindley Avenue by a scavenger looking for items to recycle.
Authorities said Hall had taken public transportation from Los Angeles to Long Beach, including the Metro Blue Line, with the plastic bag containing the boy's body.
The child died from blunt force trauma, with two fatal wounds to his head and back.
At trial, Hall blamed the boy's mother for his death.
Hall faces 25 years to life in prison when sentenced on March 15, according to Deputy District Attorney Bob Hight.
