LONG BEACH -- A 17-year-old boy has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and other counts for allegedly driving a car in a Long Beach street race that left four people dead.
Authorities say the unidentified teen was driving a Ford Taurus late Sunday in a race with the driver of a Ford Mustang.
According to L.B. Police investigators the two cars were racing eastbound on Ocean Blvd late Sunday when the drivers lost control of their vehicles and collided.
The Mustang crashed into a concrete median. Three passengers were thrown from the car.
A 32-year-old woman and another female, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A 19-year-old man died after being taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the Mustang was also pronounced dead at the scene.
He has been identified by friends as 18-year-old Jesse Heredia.
His friends tell KTLA that he had just graduated from Millikan High School and was planning to attend Long Beach City College.
The other people involved in the wreck have not yet been identified.
Two 17-year-old boys were in the Taurus. They were not injured in the crash and both ran from the scene.
They were arrested several blocks away.
The Taurus they were driving was also reported stolen, according to police investigators.
The driver did not have a license.
Los Angeles County district attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison said Tuesday that prosecutors will seek to have the teen driver tried as an adult on the eight felony counts.
