LONG BEACH -- A 17-year-old boy convicted of carrying out a murder to take revenge for his younger brother's death has been sentenced to 255 years in prison.
A judge Friday ordered Eric Antonio Benites to serve seven consecutive life sentences.
The judge also denied a request to send Benites to juvenile detention.
Benites was convicted of murdering Florentino Rivera and trying to kill five other people during a January 2008 shooting rampage in Long Beach.
Prosecutors said Benites was trying to avenge the stabbing death of his 13-year-old brother Jose Cano by a rival gang.
Co-defendant Jason Trejo was convicted of murder in a separate trial and will be sentenced Sept. 10.
