LONG BEACH (KTLA) -- A homicide investigation is under way after a 14-year-old boy was shot to death inside a home in Long Beach.

The shooting was reported around 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of East 53rd Street.

Family members say Eduardo Rodriguez was playing video games in the living room when he heard a knock at the door.

When Eduardo opened the door, still leaving a security screen closed, he was shot by the suspect or suspects, who were outside the residence.

A neighbor said he heard a "spray of bullets."

"It wasn't like a pop, pop, pop from what would sound like a revolver.

It sounded more like... an Uzi," he said, adding that he heard between 8 to 10 shots.

Eduardo was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the shooter was targeting a relative with gang ties who used to live there.

The victim's family said Rodriguez was a straight-A student who dreamed of attending UC Berkeley.
