MALIBU (KTLA) -- A car plunged off a road in the Santa Monica Mountains near Malibu and burst into flames, killing one person.
Fire officials say the car plunged about 100 feet down a canyon in the area of Kanan Dume Road around noon.
The impact ignited a 2 acre fire which is being fanned by canyon winds.
More than 100 firefighters were dispatched to the area.
The fatality is believed to be the driver.
Kanan-Dume Road was reopened between PCH and Latigo Canyon Road around 4:30 p.m.
