STUDIO CITY (KTLA) -- Investigators are trying to determine how a man's lifeless body ended up in a fountain at an outdoor mall Friday morning.

The man's body was spotted by a passerby around 7:15 a.m. Friday morning at the California Pavillion Shopping Center in the 12000 block of Ventura Boulevard.

When firefighters arrived, they found the man in the water with no visible signs of trauma.

Police said the body did not appear to be in the fountain for long before firefighters arrived on scene.

According to police, the cause of death is believed to be drowning.

His identity has not been released pending Coroner's investigation.

California Pavillion is a two-level shopping center with a mix of restaurants and stores such as Jamba Juice and California Pizza Kitchen.
