NEWPORT BEACH (KTLA) -- Police in Newport Beach are investigating an unusual crime. They say a man reported 25 pounds of marijuana were stolen from his home.
The man, who has not been identified, claims he has a permit to grow marijuana.
But Newport Beach City Attorney David Hunt says the city doesn't give out pot growing permits or licenses.
The burglary happened about 4:40 p.m. Sunday in the 20000 block of Spruce Street in Santa Ana Heights.
A resident called police to say two men were breaking into a neighbor's home.
The thieves used a hammer to break some glass on the front door and get inside, according to police.
They made off with boxes of packed marijuana worth about $50,000, according to the victim's estimates.
