26th Annual L.A. Marathon

Runners battle the rain at the L.A Marathon (Robert Gauthier/Los Angeles Times / March 20, 2011)

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- The 27th annual Honda Los Angeles Marathon is set to transport runners over 26 miles from Dodger Stadium to the sea Sunday morning, but expect road closures to affect traffic all day long.

Thousands of racers are expected to turn out despite the forecast for rain and temperatures in the mid to upper 50s, at least 12 degrees below normal for this time of year.

This year's race will the the third time the course will take the stadium to sea route, incorporating countless iconic landmarks along the way.

Street closures will begin at 4 a.m. Sunday with the majority of roads set to reopen around noon.

The following streets will be closed starting at 4 a.m.:
  • Elysian Park Avenue from Dodger Stadium to Sunset Boulevard (reopen at 9 a.m.);
  • Sunset Boulevard from Innes Avenue to Figueroa Street (reopen at 9:20 a.m.);
  • Cesar Chavez Avenue from Bunker Hill to Alameda Street (reopen at 9:32 a.m.);
  • Broadway from Cesar Chavez Avenue to Alpine Street (reopen at 9:35 a.m.);
  • Alpine Street from Hill Street to Alpine Street (reopen at 9:35 a.m.);
  • Spring Street from College Street to Second St. (reopen at 9:35 a.m.);
  • Main Street from East Cesar Chavez Avenue to Third Street (reopen at 9:50 a.m.);
  • First Street from Hope Street to Alameda Street (reopen at 9:50 a.m.);
  • Central Avenue from First Street to Third Street (reopen at 9:50 a.m.);
  • Second Street from Alameda Street to Broadway (reopen at 9:50 a.m.);
  • Grand Avenue from Cesar Chavez Avenue to Second Street (reopen at 10:05 a.m.);
  • Temple Street from Alameda Street to Glendale Boulevard (reopen at 10:20 a.m.);
  • Edgeware Road from Temple Street to Boston Street (reopen at 10:20 a.m.);
  • Bellevue Avenue from Sunset Boulevard to Glendale Boulevard (reopen at 10:20 a.m.);
  • Glendale Boulevard from Temple Street to Sunset Boulevard (reopen at 10:40 a.m.);
  • Sunset Boulevard from Echo Park Avenue to Virgil Avenue (reopen at 11:10 a.m.);
  • Hollywood Boulevard from Hillhurst Avenue to La Brea Avenue (reopen at noon);
  • Orange Drive from Hollywood Boulevard to Sunset Boulevard (reopen at noon).

The following streets will be closed starting at 5 a.m.:
  • San Vicente Boulevard from Sunset Boulevard to Melrose Avenue (reopen at 1 p.m.);
  • Santa Monica Boulevard from La Cienega Boulevard to Sierra Drive (reopen at 1 p.m.);
  • Doheny Drive from Nemo Street to Wilshire Boulevard(reopen at 1 p.m.);
  • Burton Way from Robertson Boulevard to Rexford Drive (reopen at 1 p.m.);
  • South Santa Monica Boulevard from Rexford Drive to Sepulveda Boulevard (reopen at 1 p.m.);
  • Rodeo Drive from Santa Monica Boulevard to Wilshire Boulevard (reopen at 1 p.m.);
  • Wilshire Boulevard from Beverly Drive to Santa Monica Boulevard (reopen at 1 p.m.);
  • Santa Monica Boulevard from Wilshire Boulevard to Sawtelle Boulevard (reopen at 2:04 p.m.);
  • Sepulveda Boulevard from South Santa Monica Boulevard to Wilshire Boulevard (reopen at 2:04 p.m.);
  • Ohio Avenue from Veteran Avenue to Sawtelle Boulevard (reopen at 2:20 p.m.);
  • Sawtelle Boulevard from Santa Monica Boulevard to Dowlen Drive (reopen at 2:20 p.m.);
  • Dowlen Drive from Bonsall Avenue to Wadsworth Place (reopen at 2:20 p.m.);
  • Bonsall Avenue from Dowlen Drive to Eisenhower Avenue (reopen at 2:20 p.m.);
  • Eisenhower Avenue from Bonsall Avenue to Bringham Avenue (reopen at 2:20 p.m.);
