MARINA DEL REY -- The body of man who had been shot in the head remained slumped on the balcony railing of his Marina del Rey apartment for four days before police were notified.

Neighbors say they noticed the body Monday but didn't call officials until Thursday because they thought it was part of a Halloween display.

The victim, identified as 75-year-old Mostafa Majmoud Zayed, apparently shot himself in the head, according to Jerry McKibben an investigator for the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner. Neighbors say it was a bloody scene, but they thought it was just a "sick Halloween joke".

The body was found around 5:45 p.m. Thursday on the balcony of an apartment at 13914 Bora Bora Way.

"... Everything is pointing to it being a suicide," said McKibben.

Autopsy results are pending.
