LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is joining the Academy Awards celebration with a bash of his own.

Villaraigosa is co-hosting a pre-Oscar party with The Hollywood Reporter Thursday night at Getty House, the mayor's official L.A. residence, The Los Angeles Times is reporting.

The event will honor award nominees and is intended to draw attention to one of the "most important industries in the city and its biggest night," the mayor's spokeswoman Sarah Hamilton said.

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards will be held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday night, March 7. The show will be hosted by Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.
