MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KTLA) -- A Monterey Park man is behind bars after attacking his wife and 3-year old son with a butcher knife, according to police.
Monterey Park Police Department officers were called to the home along the 200 block of Sefton Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Arriving officers saw a man carrying two butcher knives inside the home and heard a woman screaming from a back bathroom, Capt. Eugene Harris said.
The woman had locked herself inside the bathroom and was holding her 3-year-old son in her arms.
Officers rescued the child through a window.
SWAT officers later rescued the woman before storming the home and taking the suspect into custody.
Xiong Chao, 49, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Monterey Park police Sgt. John Martindale said.
The woman had been stabbed in the leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Harris said.
The child was not hurt.
