Riverside County Sheriff's officials say this dog attacked a boy and his mother, and bit off part of the boy's ear. (Moreno Valley Animal Control Services) |
The attack happened about 11:40 a.m. near the intersection of Indian and Myers avenues when Maria Juarez was walking with her 6-year-old son, Ruben, and pushing a stroller carrying a younger child.
A 120-pound bull mastiff escaped from its year and attacked them, officials said.
"We were walking and I came out of school," Ruben said. "We just went three blocks away and we kept on walking and we saw the gate open.
"(The dog) just attacked me and mom tried to get him off me."
The dog tore off part of the Ruben's ear and bit the back of his head.
Maria Juarez was bitten on her back.
Ruben said he only started to cry when his mom was bitten.
"Because my mom is the best mom," he said.
Paramedics rushed the boy to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery to re-attach his damaged ear. He was released from the hospital Tuesday night.
Moreno Valley Animal Control Services arrived and seized the dog.
The dog had no history of attacks but is now subject to euthanasia.
