LONG BEACH, Calif. ( KTLA) -- A gunman suspected in the shooting death of a family member has been taken into custody after a standoff prompted the evacuation of a motel in Long Beach.

LAPD SWAT officers and Long Beach police officials surrounded the Luxury Inn Motel along the 5900 block of Long Beach Boulevard, just off the 710 Freeway, Monday morning after reports of a gunman holed up inside a room.

Officers were seen evacuating several guests, including children, from their rooms as a precaution shortly after 7:30 a.m.

The 58-year-old suspect surrendered to police peacefully nearly two hours later.

The man is suspected in a deadly shooting in Panorama City, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Los Angeles police Officer Cleon Joseph.

It's believed the victim, who died at a hospital, was the suspect's 20-year-old stepson. The two were said to have been arguing when the shooting occurred.

No further details have been released.
