Mother's Cremated Remains Stolen in Car

LA MIRADA (KTLA) -- A thief who stole a vehicle in La Mirada containing a woman's cremated remains is still on the loose Saturday after the car, and the ashes, were recovered.

Thursday around 6pm, a woman who had been visiting her family in Whittier from Oregon parked her Ford Taurus in the Stater Brother's market parking lot in the 12000 block of La Mirada Boulevard, La Mirada.

When she returned to her car an hour later after shopping, the vehicle was gone along with the cremated remains of her mother. The remains had been in the back seat encased in a white box.

The abandoned car was found by the victim's sister around 11 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot on Imperial Highway in La Mirada.

According to Sheriff's, the victim's mother's remains were still inside the vehicle.

The victim, who has not been identified, has plans to return to Oregon with her mother's remains to arrange a final resting place.
