OREGON CITY, Ore. -- A man accused of sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl, then secretly marrying the child's mother has been captured by police.
Clackamas County sheriff's deputies say 47-year-old Don Edward Smock Jr. was arrested Tuesday.
Smock was wanted on a felony arrest warrant alleging 45 counts of various child sex abuse charges.
Meanwhile, deputies say a hearing was pending for his new wife, 41-year-old Barbara Lynn Whitehead on charges of perjury, witness-tampering, hindering prosecution and false swearing.
Whitehead, the mother of the abuse victim, secretly married Smock last week just hours after a grand jury indicted him.
Police say the couple honeymooned in a Portland hotel during the weekend with the 7-year old victim.
Smock then disappeared and was declared a fugitive.
He was finally tracked down and arrested during a traffic stop in Damascus.
Whitehead's daughter has been taken into custody by state Child Protective Services.
