LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- A local detective is getting some heat after a recent tweet that included a picture of a murder victim.

LAPD homicide detective Sal LaBarbera, aka @LAMurderCop, posted a picture of a homicide victim with the caption "Guess where I'm at?...it never ends".

The picture shows a 32-year-old man who was shot to death on the sidewalk, apparently the victim of gang violence.

Local arts blog LA Taco is blasting the 20-year homicide veteran's tweet, saying it "crosses the line."

According to L.A. Weekly, "The LAPD says there is an "ongoing investigation" of LaBarbera's activity. But the detective says "that's the same exact photo the news folks would have taken."

LaBarbera posted the following message on twitter Thursday regarding the controversy: "Lets get back to the business of bring (sic) the community together and preventing n solving violent crimes. There is no 'under fire', or 'investigation'. I will fall on the sword for the photo."

The shooting victim has been identified as 32-year-old Oscar Arevalo.

His assailants are still at large.
