LOS ANGELES -- A passenger who stripped naked aboard a Los Angeles-bound US Airways jet is expected to be arraigned today, according to the FBI.

US Airways flight 705 from Charlotte to L.A. was diverted to Albuquerque after a male passenger removed his clothing mid-flight Tuesday evening.

Airline officials say 50-year-old Keith Wright of New York disrobed while sitting in his seat in the back of the aircraft, which was carrying about 148 passengers.

Wright was unresponsive when a flight attendant asked him repeatedly to get dressed and refused to be covered with a blanket, officials said. At one point, Wright kicked and punched the flight attendant, according to a criminal complaint.

Law enforcement employees, including an off-duty LAPD officer who happened to be on board, helped subdue and handcuff Wright before the flight landed.

A US Airways spokeswoman says the plane continued on to Los Angeles after Wright's arrest.

Wright is currently in federal custody in New Mexico and may be ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination.

Wright told the FBI he is suffering from a bipolar disorder and had not taken his prescribed medication before leaving New York on the morning of the flight, the criminal complaint said.

Wright said in the report that he recalled nothing about the flight or his behavior.
