NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) -- Police arrested a Costa Mesa woman Wednesday and accused her of critically injuring a 17-year-old Newport Harbor High School Student when she struck the teen while driving under the influence near the school Tuesday afternoon.

Marnie J. Lippincott, 38, was driving a Chevy Tahoe about 2:45 p.m., Tuesday heading north on Irvine Avenue when she struck the girl, Crystal Morales, a senior at Newport Harbor High, who was walking in a crosswalk at Margaret Drive, police told the Daily Pilot.

Paramedics rushed Crystal to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where she remains in critical condition.

Newport Beach police arrested Lippincott on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing injury, a department spokeswoman told the Pilot.

Lippincott was booked at Orange County Jail. Her bail was set at $100,000.

Newport Mesa Unified School District spokeswoman Laura Boss told the Pilot that Lippincott's son also attends Harbor High.

Crystal suffered head trauma, internal bleeding, brain swelling and other internal injuries, the Pilot reported.
