NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) -- Nearly a dozen high school students in Newport Beach bought the answers for a history exam on Amazon.com, school officials said.

Ten students from Corona del Mar High School were able to purchase test banks, which contain chapter-by-chapter questions for exams.

The test banks are provided by textbook publishers to help teachers create tests.

Some of the students tried to sell the information to classmates, parents said at a PTA meeting on Wednesday.

About 180 students took the exam. It's not clear how many may have had the answers beforehand.

The history teacher found out about the cheating through an anonymous note, likely written by a student.

The district contacted the publishing company, and the test bank is no longer available on Amazon.

School officials said they have not determined whether or how the students will be disciplined.
