LOS ANGELES -- A North Hollywood man was "fighting for his life" Saturday after being critically injured in a house fire Friday night.
The blaze at 6548 Fulcher Avenue was reported at 11:51 p.m. Friday, and firefighters arrived to find the single-family home "well involved" in flames, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
Fire crews were responding to a vague report of smoke, and found the burning home about a quarter-mile from the initial reporting location.
Firefighters forced open the front door and found a motionless man with no pulse, Humphrey said.
Some firefighters attacked the blaze and others carried the unresponsive man outside and began CPR.
"During ambulance transport, a team of veteran LAFD paramedics were able to restore a pulse to the man, who remained in very critical condition" with ventilator assistance upon arrival at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Humphrey said.
The man was "still fighting for his life" when paramedics left the hospital early today, Humphrey said.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames in about 10 minutes. The blaze was declared knocked down at 12:01 a.m.
The 1,592-square-foot home and its contents sustained about $150,000 damage, Humphrey said.
