NORTH HOLLYWOOD (KTLA) -- An elderly woman was rushed to the hospital after a fire at a home in North Hollywood Wednesday morning.
The blaze was reported at 7:44 a.m. at a home in the 12400 block of Burton Street.
When they arrived, firefighters found an elderly woman outside with significant burns.
She was transported to Kaiser Panorama City in critical condition.
Firefighters encountered pack-rat conditions inside the home, where newspapers and magazines were stacked from the floor to the ceiling.
They were able to prevent the fire from spreading to any neighboring houses.
Authorities believe the fire was accidental, but the cause is still under investigation.
Neighbors say the woman has lived in the house since the early 1950s, and they have been concerned about the pack-rat conditions for some time.
