LADERA RANCH, Calif. (KTLA) -- A bipolar teen who was reported missing by his parents after being released from jail last week, is back in police custody.
Matthew Hoff, who was released Feb. 7 from the Orange County Jail, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and drug possession Tuesday evening in Santa Ana.
Hoff was in possession of five small bundles of methamphetamine, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
"He was uncooperative and was taken to hospital for medical clearance," Bertagna said.
Hoff told police he also robbed a Subway restaurant in the 1600 block of South Grand Avenue about 20 minutes before his arrest, Bertagna said.
Hoff was booked at the Santa Ana City Jail on suspicion of methamphetamine possession and on suspicion of robbery.
His mother told The L.A. Times that Hoff had been in custodial treatment for severe mental illness for most of his adolescence, but had to leave the system once he turned 18.
During the recent jail term for stealing from a neighbor's car, his family said, he went off of his medication.
Hoff's family is concerned he could be a danger to himself and others.
Since his release from jail earlier this month, the Hoffs have been actively trying to locate their son, who they described as "missing."
Recently, a judge recommended that Matthew Hoff be put under a mental-health conservatorship, which would give his parents the legal ability to get hospitalization for him when he needs it.
According to Matthew's attorney he is fighting the proposed conservatorship.
The attorney tells KTLA that Matthew was never missing, he was just not interested in contacting his parents.
