LAGUNA BEACH -- Authorities believe they have found the body of a 22-year-old swimmer in Laguna Beach who was last seen struggling in the water Sunday evening.

Witnesses saw William Barrientos, of Lake Forest, jump off a cliff near Table Rock Drive around 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jason Kravetz said.

Soon after, Barrientos was seen struggling and bobbing in the water while screaming for help, Kravetz said.

One person ran into the water and tried to rescue the victim, but before he got there, Barrientos went under.

Laguna Beach Police along with divers and lifeguards began searching for Barrientos immediately.

A body, believed to be that of Barrientos, was discovered about 2:30 p.m. Monday near West Street beach, just north of Table Rock, Kravetz.said.

"Some kids saw (the body) in the wave actions and some older teens brought him in," Kravetz said.

Kravetz said the rocks near Table Rock Drive are posted as off-limits.

The drop is approximately 30 feet from the cliff to the water.
