ANAHEIM-- The Food and Drug Administration is warning people not to eat pistachio nuts packed and distributed from a plant in Orange County.

After the FDA conducted a routine audit at Orca Distribution West Inc. In Anaheim, they discovered pistachios repacked at the plant were contaminated with salmonella.

The affected pistachios are " California Prime Produce and Orange County Orchards" brand, which were repacked at Orca after being recalled by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Incorporated of Terra Bella, CA

In a press release issued Monday night, the FDA advised consumers not to eat any pistachios or products containing them unless it can be determined the nuts did not come from Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc.

The FDA says affected pistachio products were distributed to retail locations in airports and hotels nationwide.

The California Prime Produce and Orange County Orchards brands of pistachios were packaged in clear 6 ounce flexible plastic Ziploc bags, UPC Number: 8 10826 01116 2 with Sell By Dates of 7/30/09 and 8/30/09, said the press release.

No illnesses related to possibly salmonella-contaminated pistachios have been reported.

The FDA and the California Department of Public Health are investigating the extent of the contamination, how it happened, and who may have already received the recalled pistachios.
