SAN BERNARDINO -- Three backpackers, including a San Bernardino Police officer, who were reported missing have been found safe.

Officer Lanier Rogers, 25, and brothers Jordan and Jake Zeman were rescued from Kings Canyon National Park near Fresno Thursday afternoon after being spotted by park helicopter earlier in the day, park officials said.

The hikers told their rescuers they were stranded on a ledge above a waterfall for three days. The waterfall is about a quarter mile from the village of Cedar Grove.

The three men began their 65-mile hike at the Road's End trail on Oct. 7 and were expected to return to their vehicles Monday afternoon.

When the men never showed up, family members started to worry and contacted authorities.

The National Park Service launched a search on Tuesday, which was hampered by the recent storm that brought rain, snow and freezing temperatures to the area. A break in the weather allowed the ground and aerial search to intensify Thursday.

All are reported to be in good condition.

The three men had an emotional reunion with family members shortly after their rescue.
