Rape Suspect Killed After Freeway Pursuit (July 7, 2009) |
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man wanted in connection with a series of rapes in the Antelope Valley has been killed by police after a high speed chase in Ohio.
The man, identified as Abram Bynum, was a suspect in the rapes of 4 women in Lancaster and one in Palmdale between 2004 and 2007.
Deputies traced Bynum to Ohio, where they enlisted the help of local police to get a DNA sample.
That sample was matched yesterday, linking Bynum to all 5 rapes.
L.A. County Sheriff's filed the case with the DA's office were on a flight to Columbus Tuesday morning.
In the meantime, local police had Bynum under surveillance.
But when officers tried to detain him, Bynum fled in a white cadillac.
The chase ended on the I-70 freeway when Bynum crossed the center divider and collided head-on into a tanker truck.
When officers approached Bynum, they say he was still moving and appeared to be reaching for a weapon.
He was shot by police and pronounced dead at the scene.
