A female adult and a female child were on the roof of the house trying to get away from the flames. The officers and some neighbors were able to get them off the roof.

Officers were told that an 8-year-old child was unaccounted for and tried to make entry into the house, but had to back off. That child was later found to be safe.

Firefighters arrived shortly after and quickly extinguished the flames.

Twelve people were inside the house when the blaze broke out, and all of them had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

A 10-year-old boy suffered critical burn injuries and was airlifted to the Loma Linda University Medical Center. He had burns to 30 to 40 percent of his body, authorities said.

An adult male suffered some burns to his feet and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Investigators are now trying to determine the cause of the fire.
