PACOIMA, Calif. -- A man is recovering from injuries after he confronted suspected car thieves outside his Pacoima home and was then stabbed in the face with a screwdriver.
The stabbing was reported around 1 a.m. Friday in the 9500 block of Remick Avenue, just west of Laurel Canyon.
Police say the man heard thieves breaking into his customized pickup truck parked outside his house. He rushed outside and confronted the suspects.
That's when one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and stabbed the man in the cheek and shoulder.
Police say some of the other suspects then jumped the victim and began beating him.
The assailants fled in a red Toyota Camry, leaving the man bleeding on the ground.
The victim was treated at a hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
Police say in situations like this, call 911 and do not try to take matters into your own hands.
