LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KTLA) -- Police responded Friday night to a report by family members concerned a man might commit suicide and found that he not only killed himself but also tried to kill his wife.
The family members called police about 8 p.m. and told dispatchers they were worried a man in his early 30s might kill himself at a home in the 500 block of Orange Grove Avenue in the Park La Brea area of Los Angeles. Officers arrived at the home and found the man dead inside, police officials said.
They heard the voice of a woman calling for help from inside a restroom. That woman was the dead man's wife, officials said. He injured the woman, in her late 20s, before he took his own life.
Paramedics rushed the woman to a nearby hospital with blunt force trauma to the head. She is recovering and is expected to survive.
Police would not disclose how the man killed himself, but said he did not use a gun.
The names of the man and woman have not been released. Police officials said the couple had two young children who were staying with relatives at the time the violence broke out.
