WEST LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- A woman is dead after her vehicle plunged from the fourth floor of a parking structure in West Los Angeles.

It happened around 9:50 a.m. Tuesday at the parking structure for the Sports Club L.A. on Sepulveda Boulevard and Nebraska Avenue.

75-year-old Maris Cherry drove her 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan through a barrier and plunged four stories before landing upside down on the street below, according to Los Angeles Fire Department officials.

She was found in the driver's seat of the vehicle and was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators say she was alone in the vehicle.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

It's unclear if the vehicle malfunctioned or if it was operator error, officials say.

Witnesses say the woman's SUV was parked in front of the wall prior to the accident.

Safety inspectors were assessing the damage to the parking structure.
