Father Shot at Pasadena Club

PASADENA -- A man was in custody Sunday in the May 29 fatal shooting of a 39-year-old father of two who was watching the Lakers game at a Pasadena nightclub.

Dwayne Rice, 29, was arrested Thursday in San Bernardino.

He is suspected of fatally shooting David Crosby, 32, of Lancaster, who was on the patio of the Atlantis restaurant and nightclub with family members and friends watching the Lakers and Denver Nuggets in the playoffs. Rice allegedly approached Crosby and opened fire.

Police said the restaurant was nearly empty when they arrived.

Some of the people at the nightclub had just attended a funeral service in nearby Altadena, for Pasadena City College student Darryl Stephens, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an Upland apartment on May 17.

Stephens and another men were considered suspects in the May 5 killing of a man in San Bernardino.

Rice has a long criminal history and was on parole when arrested, according to police.

He was denied bail pending his arraignment, which is scheduled for Monday.
