LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena found themselves in the middle of a crime scene Wednesday night while researching their roles for the upcoming movie, "End of Watch."

The pair was on a police ride-along with the officers from the L.A.P.D.'s 77th Street Division when they responded to the scene of an apparent gang shooting.

According to Sgt. Angela McGee, the shooting took place in South Los Angeles at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and W. 57th Street around 11:30 p.m.. A man was shot in the eye by rival gang members. The victim is expected to survive, according to police officials. The suspects escaped the scene and no arrests were made.

"End of Watch" is a drama that tracks the relationship between two long-time partners on the Los Angeles police force. The movie is expected to hit theaters in 2013.
