YORBA LINDA -- The annual jog-a-thon at Linda Vista Elementary School in Yorba Linda is getting a little more attention than usual... all because of an embarrassing mistake.

The phone number printed on the front of the student T- shirts was actually the number for an adult chat line. A vigilant parent called the number and then immediately contacted the school.

The T-shirts were handed out to all students participating in the Oct. 16 jog-a-thon during recess and recalled before students left at the end of the day, according to principal Jackie Howland. All of the T-shirts were believed to have been retrieved, but parents were informed just in case, Howland said.

The T-shirts featured the school mascot -- a lion -- running with the question: "How's my running?" with a 1-800 number printed below.

The number was picked thinking it was a cute slogan for the jog-a-thon, but turned out to be a real phone number, according to Rosemary Gladden, public information officer for Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District.

Linda Vista PTA isn't the first group to make the same mistake with the same 1-800 number. Turns out the slogan was used at several other schools across the country with the same embarrassing result.

The shirts were printed by the PTA, which spent over 500 hours volunteering for the event, Howland said.

Despite the mistake, Howland said the jog-a-thon was success, raising $25,000 for student activities.
