LOS ANGELES - Federal and local agents raided two marijuana dispensaries in the Los Angeles area and arrested the owner.
Officials say more than 20 people from various agencies served a state search warrant Wednesday at the Organica Collective in Culver City, the Overland Gardens Collective in West Los Angeles and a private residence.
Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman Jose Martinez says agents seized about 100 pounds of marijuana, about 200 live plants and about $100,000 in cash.
The owner of the dispensaries, 50-year-old Jeffrey Joseph, was arrested at his home in Topanga Canyon, officials said. Joseph was booked for selling marijuana and posted $100,000 bond.
Agents shot a pit bull during the raid, according to Martinez, but it was expected to survive.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Internal Revenue Service, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles Police Department, Torrance Police Department and Culver City Police Department took part in the raids.
No further details were released in the case.
California law allows marijuana use and distribution for medical purposes to those with a valid doctor's recommendation. Marijuana use of any kind is illegal under federal law.
