LOS ANGELES ( KTLA) -- Potholes are a big problem in the city of Los Angeles and the recent pounding rains have made the situation even worse.
But L.A. City Councilman Eric Garcetti is pushing to fix the problem with the expansion of Operation Pothole.
On Tuesday, Garcetti urged residents to alert the city to major pothole problems.
"Please don't assume that the city will magically know where they all are," Garcetti said. "These men and women, when they're driving around, not only take the calls, they look on the streets and repair as many as they can. But we can't be everywhere at all times. That's where the public comes in. So pick up your phone and let us know where it is."
Residents are being urged to call the city's information line at 3-1-1 to report major pothole problems.
Operation Pothole will kick into high gear on January 8 and 9. That's when extra trucks and crews will fan out across the city and repair as many potholes as possible.
In addition to calling 3-1-1, residents can also report potholes to The Bureau of Street Services Hotline at (800) 996-CITY / (800) 996 2489.
