LOS ANGELES -- The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 4.6 earthquake has shaken a remote area of the Mojave Desert in Southern California.

The 1:21 p.m. Monday tremor southeast of the community of Trona is the latest of a number of small earthquakes that have occurred around Southern California over two days.

The USGS says the epicenter was 117 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

Earlier Monday, a magnitude-3.6 quake occurred south of Anza in the vicinity of the Riverside-San Diego County line, about 30 miles southwest of Palm Springs.

On Sunday, a magnitude-4.3 quake and a smaller tremor occurred well offshore near San Nicolas Island.

Just 3 minutes later, a magnitude 3.6 quake struck in the same location on the sea floor, 56 miles west of Catalina Island.

There were no reports of injuries or damage in any of the quakes.
