LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles police shot and killed a suspected gang member they say pointed a gun at them while patrolling gang hot spots in the Rampart area.
Officer April Harding says two gang enforcement officers tried to stop a man shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday near MacArthur Park but he ran away.
The man pointed a gun at officers, prompting them to open fire, Lt. Don Brady said.
The suspect, a known gang member and parolee, died at the scene, police said.
Investigators say a gun was found next to the man's body.
His identity was not immediately released.
No one else was hurt in the incident.
The shooting is under investigation.
The shooting occurred just hours after police killed another man in North Hills who may have been mentally ill.
