REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) -- A man believed to have killed his estranged wife at an apartment in Redondo Beach was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a three-hour standoff with police in Utah Wednesday night.

Utah Highway Patrol officers were notified to keep an eye out for 49-year-old Russell Scott Goldberg, who was driving a 2007 Saturn with California license plates.

Around 6:30 p.m., officers spotted the vehicle on the northbound I-15 in Beaver County. When they attempted to pull the car over, the driver took off, leading troopers on a high speed chase.

A spike strip was laid down, and within 15 minutes, the Saturn's wheels were punctured and the pursuit came to a stop.

An armed standoff ensued, shutting down about 11 miles of the I-15 to traffic.

The SWAT team was called in because Goldberg was considered armed and dangerous.

By 9:30 p.m., Goldberg was found dead in his vehicle from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Hours earlier, around 9 a.m., police had received a call from a person in New York, asking them to check on a woman at an apartment in the 1200 block of Agate Street in Redondo Beach.

When officers arrived, they found a woman who was killed by multiple gunshot wounds.

The woman has been identified by police as 45-year-old Margaret Ann Goldberg. She was in the middle of a divorce with her estranged husband, Scott.

Goldberg was initially sought as a person of interest, but by about 4 p.m. Wednesday, police were calling him a suspect.

The couple had 2 children, a 13-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son.

They were in court last Friday for a hearing about spousal support, court records show.

Police said the children are safe and being cared for.
