LOS FELIZ -- Southern California's famed "Reggie the Alligator" will show off his new digs and a new roommate Monday at the Los Angeles Zoo.
Reggie is moving into a new gator pond, and he's got a new roommate named Cajun Kate.
He's believed to be about 20 years old, while she's around 40.
Zoo officials plan to unveil the new exhibit at 9 a.m. Monday with a small ceremony.
Reggie became a local celebrity after he was found in Harbor City's Machado Lake in August 2005.
Gator wranglers hired by the city were unable to capture Reggie for more than a year. It was believed he was dead or hibernating.
Even the late Steve Irwin -- the so-called "Crocodile Hunter" got in on the act, vowing to help capture Reggie if he ever re-emerged.
On May 24, 2007, Reggie was spotted sunning himself and captured, with a dog catcher's pole.
Reggie, then nearly 7 feet long and 140 pounds, was put on exhibit in a temporary pen at the zoo in Griffith Park.
In August of that year, he made a brief escape.
