GLENDALE- A man was arrested for the theft of a $9,200 Rolex watch after a tipster recognized him in surveillance footage, a police official said.
54 year old Gary Demirchyan of Glendale was arrested in his home in the 2700 block of Sleepy Hollow Place in Glenoaks Canyon on suspicion of grand theft, said Sergeant Tom Lorenz of the Glendale police department.
On Thursday, a citizen called the Glendale Police Department after recognizing Demirchyan in surveillance footage of the incident given to the press, Lorenz said.
The robbery took place on on August 2 when a man entered the Classic Designs at 2213 Glendale Galleria and inquired about a Rolex watch.
After the clerk removed the watch for the alleged customer to examine, the man distracted the clerk about repairs to his phone. When the clerk left the watch on a chair behind the counter and left the room, the suspect walked over and scooped the Rolex up before leaving the store.
The watch was not recovered in Demirchyan's home, Lorenz said.
Demirchyan is due in court October 8 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Glendale and the case will be presented to the district attorney's office in the upcoming week.
