Child Critical After Hit and Run Crash
MISSION HILLS - Two drivers were arrested for a road rage incident that left two children in critical condition Monday.
Armando Anaya, 50, of North Hills was arrested after he initially fled from the scene of a road rage incident that caused a van with four young children in it to be overturned.
Juan Garcia, 28, was driving the van that was overturned. His passengers his 25 year old girlfriend and Garcia's 10 year old son, 9 year old daughter, 7 year old daughter, and 2 year old daughter, said an LAPD press release.
Anaya and Garcia were both arrested and booked for assault with a deadly weapon with a vehicle. Other charges are pending, including driving under the influence, and child endangering for Garcia.
The collision was reported at 3:10 p.m. at Sepulveda Boulevard and Mayall Street near Mission Hills Monday, said Devin Gales of the city fire department.
When responders arrived on scene, they discovered a Chevrolet Astro Van that had apparently run into the center median and flipped over.
According to LAPD officials, the 10 year-old boy was ejected from the van and suffered life threatening injuries and his 7 year-old sister suffered a serious head injury.
The 9 year old girl and 2 year old girl received minor injuries and were treated and released from a local hospital into the care of the Department of Children and Family Services, said the release.
Police say none of the children were wearing seat belts and were sitting totally unrestrained in the back of the van.
All of the children were treated at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.
