Runaway Prius slams into mini-mall in Pasadena. (KTLA-TV / May 26, 2011) |
PASADENA (KTLA) -- A driver lost control of her car and slammed into a mini-mall Thusday morning, plowing through a martial arts studio and trapping an unsuspecting woman in an elevator.
Gerry Young spoke exclusively to KTLA about the accident, which happened when she was on the way to her martial arts class.
She said her Toyota Prius would not stop, even after she pulled the keys out of the ignition.
The car crashed through the front window of the martial arts studio, plowed through a wall and fell partially into an elevator shaft.
A woman was trapped inside the elevator for nearly an hour.
Young was able to free herself from her Prius just before the elevator descended, partially crushing the car.
Fortunately, the martial arts class had not started yet, so no one inside the studio was hurt.
