SAN BERNARDINO -- A 2-year-old boy mauled by a family pit bull in San Bernardino has died.
Sgt. Travis Walker says the boy died early Friday morning after being attacked around 7:20 p.m. Thursday at his family's home in the 1500 block of Kendall Drive.
The boy was in the backyard when the dog attacked him for some unknown reason, according to Lt. David Harp of the San Bernardino Police Department.
The boy was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with major head trauma.
The family owned two dogs. Both were removed from the home by Animal Control officials pending an investigation by the San Bernardino Police Department.
Investigators say the incident appears to be an unfortunate and tragic accident.
