SAN DIMAS -- A bear was spotted near a San Dimas condominium complex early this morning, forcing residents to stay inside and keep their doors and windows locked.
Lt. Roxanna Hart of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department says they received a call about a bear running through the yards of several homes in a condominium complex near Foothill Boulevard and Woodglen Street about 7:41 a.m.
It's trash day in the community, and experts say the bears know it.
"As I stepped outside I noticed the trash was everywhere. I noticed a furry kind of bush that I'd never seen before. I didn't have my glasses and the next thing you know the bush was moving. It was a bear," resident Anthony Torres told KTLA's Lynette Romero.
Residents say they know their community backs up near a wildlife area and they're used to seeing animals wander the neighborhood. But, they haven't seen too many bears.
There are reports that a bear was spotted taking a dip in a pool in nearby Glendora, but it's unclear if it was the same bear.
Sheriff's deputies and members from the Department of Fish and Game monitored the location of the bear all morning.
No one was hurt and the bear wandered back into the wilderness about an hour and a half after it was first spotted.
Just last week, bears were spotted near the communities of Camarillo and LaVerne. Those bears were tranquilized and returned to the wild.
